Rianda House Aging Well Series:

Rianda House Lunch Bunch
Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays
Noon to 1:00 pm

Rianda House is the upper valley host site for Senior Nutrition of Napa Valley's well loved Meals On Wheels program.
Enjoy a nutritious meal in a welcoming social setting 3 days a week.
New costs in 2014: $3.00 suggested donation for 60+ and $6.75 for folks under 60 or for senior caregivers who bring a senior to lunch at Rianda House. Reservations are required: call Rianda House before 2 pm the day prior to your meal (M - F) 707-963-8555

with Napa Hospice & Adult Day Services

1st Wednesday of the month - (Dec 3rd)

One hour appointments between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm.

Meet with a Medical Social Worker, for a confidential individual or family consultation. Discuss care giving challenges, receive support and guidance about memory loss or loss of independence/driving, schedule a memory screening and connect with local resources.

Support Group for Caregivers of Persons with Memory Loss*

1st Thursday each month 3:00 - 4:30 pm. (Dec 4th)
This support group is designed specifically for persons who care for family members or others with memory loss due to Alzheimer's Disease or other related dementia. Drop-ins welcome.

FREE Weekly Counseling Sessions for Local Seniors*

with Family Service of Napa Valley

We all plan to age gracefully, but sometimes life throws us off balance. If you are looking for help to bring back some balance in your life, Napa Valley Family Services is offering free counseling for Seniors. Call to book a session with an understanding listener to help get back on track. The hour long, weekly, individual sessions with a licensed professional therapist are confidential.

Medicare Benefits & Insurance Counseling Sessions*

with HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of every month: (Dec 9th and 23rd)

One hour appointments between 1:00 - 4:00 pm.


HICAP offers one-on-one guidance in a one hour private consultation from a trained Counselor in the Medicare and MediCal systems. Counselors do not recommend, endorse or sell private health insurance plans.

This is a follow up report based on feedback from previous outreach meetings and research. This Community Based Transportation Plan (CBTP) is geared towards the transportation needs of low-income people, seniors and disadvantaged populations. Come to hear how your voice is making a difference in the community! Mark you calendars.
Brain Fitness:

Brain Fitness Workout

Wednesdays, 9:30 - 11 am Dec 3, 10, 17.
Rianda House will be closed on Wednesdays, December 24th and 31st.
This interactive weekly workout program is for anyone who wants to be proactive in maintaining their brain health. Jill Wood, Brain Fitness & Memory specialist from NV Adult Day Services, will teach tips for memory enhancement that are innovative, fun, and reflect the latest in brain science.
Suggested fee: $5 per workout.

Our students are raving about this class. Join them!
Arts & Lectures:
Curious minds of all ages are welcome! Attendance is free. $5 Donations Suggested. Light refreshments served.

Gentle Yoga for Seniors


Tuesday mornings, 10:45 - 11:45

at the Carnegie Building

At corner of Oak Ave/Adams St. in St. Helena.



This is a 10 session yoga class co-sponsored by the St. Helena Parks & Recreation and Rianda House Senior Activity Center. Jodi Earls will led by this therapeutic class tailored for older adults (60+) with a focus on yoga as a fun and informative way to build more balance, strength, peace and joy into your life.


Choose between seated or floor poses (please bring your own yoga mat).

Fee: $5 per session. Drop-ins welcome. Yoga mats are available for purchase at Sportago (St. Helena) and Target (Napa). Register when you arrive.

This month classes will be held on Dec 2, 9, 16, 23.



Tai Chi

Wednesdays, 1:00 to 2:00 pm

at the Carnegie Building

Instructor Mark Whittaker has been teaching martial arts for over 30 years.

Spark Your Creativity
Mondays, 9:15 - 11:30 am
Artist Mary Ann Schildknecht leads you on playful explorations of different art mediums. No artistic skill is needed because this class is all about having a lot of fun playing with art. Students rave about this class. Join them!

Creative Arts Studio

Tuesdays, 9:15 - 11:30 am

A supportive and inspiring open studio. Get together and draw or paint with your fellow artists. Multi-media. All levels welcome.


Cards and Table Games

Thursdays 1 - 3:30 pm

Join in these lively games. Everybody has such a great time! We have some canasta players now who need more players.


Pinochle and Mah Jongg

Fridays 1 - 4 pm

Have some fun while you practice your concentration with these delightful games.
Bridge Lessons (for advanced beginners) with Randi Montin

A casual, encouraging, fun and helpful handicraft circle.

Amistad y Apoyo (Friendship and Support)

Tuesdays 10:00 - Noon
This is a wonderful and lively group of people who speak Spanish and come together weekly to chat about themes around physical and emotional health and other ideas that enhance their lives. That's one way we offer friendship and support to each other.


We also enjoy doing many projects together, like making jewelry and knitting. If you have any spare yarn, please consider donating it to Amistad y Apoyo.


We also have a bi-lingual Senior Resource Specialist that comes to Rianda House during our weekly meetings.

Cell Phone 101:
3rd Tuesday each month.

Student teachers offer private tutoring on how to use your cell phone. Please bring in your cell phone fully charged and call ahead to reserve a seat. It helps if you have a short list of things you want to learn how to do or problems you may be having before you come it. Bring this list with you!

Come join our new Equinox Writers Group. We offer a comfortable, supportive space for both experienced and beginning writers. We will explore the various

genres through exercises and personal projects to become our best creative selves. Our objective: to have fun while gaining confidence in our writing skills.

This group is limited to 15 writers and is currently full. Please call Rianda House 963-8555 if you want to be placed on the waiting list for a second writers group. We nearly have a large enough list to start a new class. As soon as we have enough writers signed up, we will begin another group.
